I’ve volunteered with Family Promise of Cape May County for a couple of years now. This is an amazing organization that helps local families with children who are experiencing homelessness. They are able to reach into the source of each family’s homeless situation and work with the parent(s) to gain independence.

Communities of faith here in Cape May County take turns hosting these families overnight at their facilities. Ninety per cent of families do not return to experiencing homelessness after 60-90 days with Family Promise. Plus, the work is 100% funded by volunteers who work with Director Laurie and Family Advocate Kathleen.

Coming up, there are some easy ways for you to support Family Promise and also benefit yourself. This weekend on Saturday June 11, 8 am to 3 pm, is the 3rd annual Family Promise Yard Sale. Come and find great deals on home décor, furniture, baby items, gently worn clothing, household goods, collectibles, seasonal/holiday items and so much more.

This year the yard sale has a table just for jewelry. Enjoy BBQ hotdogs and great music while you shop (Cash only). The event is at their Day Center at 505 Town Bank Road in North Cape May (intersection with Bayshore Road). Come out and support a great cause.
