Newest Cape May Italian Restaurant

Newest Cape May  Italian Restaurant- That’s Amore!

Is it gravy or is it sauce? If you asked Alfredo, owner, of the newest Cape May Italian restaurant, it’s gravy. Alfredo is set to open That’s Amore on the Washington Street Mall at the site of the former Cucina Rosa Restaurant, across the street from the Victorian Motel. Grand opening is set for Thursday April 2nd. Reservations are strongly suggested.

The signature dish of That’s Amore is called Sunday Gravy. Described as a tradition in Italian households, usually served Sunday afternoons after church. It conjures up aromas from my ethnically mixed neighborhood in South West Philadelphia. Every Sunday, Mrs. Delucia would have the whole street smelling wonderful with her gravy. It was one of the benefits of row-home living.

That’s Amore held their soft-opening this past Sunday afternoon. Attended primarily by family and friends and the staff of the Collingswood location. It was clear to me that the staff of the original location had much affection for Alfredo and Lydia the owners.

“Here at That’s Amore Cape May, we are so excited to open our doors to the town on Thursday, April 2nd, starting at 4PM! We look to bring you comforting, rustic Italian cuisine, with a little twist! Whether it is his signature “Sunday Gravy” or an inventive take on “Lobster Ravioli, owner Alfredo Fischioni would like to welcome you to the new That’s Amore!” said Anthony Walko, the restaurants manager.

Another house specialty is Arancini di Rosa-Rice Balls originated from Alfredo’s mother recipe. Made with a rice or risotto combination with mozzarella cheese lightly breaded and then fried. Add gravy and give me a plate full.

Okay give me two plates please. I love Italian food.

If first impressions are any indication, That’s Amore will be wildly popular. Their Collingswood location has been listed as one of the best BYOB Italian restaurants in all of South Jersey. Prices at the Cape May location look to be average for Cape May BYOB eateries.

One of the more interesting items on the menu is the Chef’s table. For as low as $60 the chef will prepare five courses of his choosing. A great alternative when you can’t decide what to eat. For $75, you can get stuffed on eight courses.
I mentioned in an earlier blog post that I am a neighborhood guy. I love to promote the neighborhood. That’s Amore will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
