In December I published a blog post about my friend Laura’s fundraising campaign for a life-saving operation she needed. Laura has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), combined with PoTs. A condition which till now you probably never heard of, and I certainly never heard of it until Laura’s parents shared the news with us.
Through her efforts, and the generosity of scores of people, Laura raised over $100,000.00 to pay for her operation in Washington D.C. The U.K. Health Care Network would not cover the expense of the life-saving operation, even though the procedure was not available to her at home in England.
January 13th of this year, Laura underwent four hours of surgery, a procedure to relieve the pressure on her brain stem. Although that operation was deemed a success, additional symptoms and complications from EDS presented themselves, and is requiring another surgery. The new surgery will be to correct an equally rare condition called Tethered Cord Syndrome, essentially an unraveling of the spinal cord.
Back in England, Laura’s twin sister Rochelle and her friends have re-invigorated the campaign to care for Laura, with bake sales and an open mike concert at Rochelle’s medial college. Laura’s local home-town newspaper and radio station have been equally supportive in raising awareness of not only her need, but making people aware of EDS in general.
To help Laura in her campaign to supplement the money needed for the second life-saving operation, I have launched a new photography page connected to this blog. On my site at Big Cartel, I am hosting five of my most popular Instagram images. These popular Cape May images will be sold as 5 x 5 prints, suitable for framing. The perfect size to keep on a desk top or book shelf. Reasonably priced at $15.00, the net proceeds of each purchase will go to the care for Laura campaign.
Shipping will only be available in the United States at this time. Thanks for helping to support care for Laura.
