Coast Guard Training Center Cape May Honors Passing of former President George H.W. Bush

That was not thunder you heard on the East end of Cape May yesterday. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May was honoring President Bush.

Petty Officers Kirby Graves and Austin Rucker honored the passing of President George H. W. Bush, in accordance with Commandant’s orders, with a saluting battery of cannon fire from 8:00 AM until sunset, Dec. 3, 2018.

George Herbert Walker Bush was an American politician who served as the 41st President of the United States from 1989 to 1993. He passed away November 30th.

“On behalf of the military and civilian personnel and the recruits of the Training Center Cape May we send our heartfelt condolences to the Bush family,” said Capt. Owen Gibbons. “Recruits here are taught respect for the chain of command and for the offices and positions appointed over them. Today they experienced first hand how our service honors the office of the President during our observance of the passing of President Bush.”

U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May is the only training center for recruits entering the service.
