Homage to Writers

Logo-2

My respect for writers, increases with every blog post I write. With that respect comes the understanding that professional writers are not only participating in the 2014 Freelance Success/WordCount Blogathon, but they have other writing assignments and deadlines. I will not assign the definition “writer” to myself, out of respect for the craft of what writers do for a living.

From 1997 to 2004, before moving to Cape May, I operated a 100 seat restaurant. Even though we had adequate staff, I found myself in the kitchen on many of the six days a week that we were open. The Inquirer food critic, John Bull, gave us a glowing write-up during that period.

Out of respect for educated professional chefs, I never applied the term chef to myself, even though, I could make a delicious five gallon pot of soup. I just never referred to myself as a chef, and often corrected those that called me one.

I’m humbled to find myself in the great company of bloggers in this marathon. In less than a week I have learned how to make homemade all-purpose cleaner. I now know where all the reasonable places are in Phoenix . Spain is now on my bucket list as a destination. And the author of the definitive guide to the Jersey Shore, Jen A. Miller, is teaching me about the ins and outs of freelancing myths.

What really caught my attention and encouraged me too, was the blog about being a better writer by reading more.  Additionally,  some Cape May locals recommended the same book as Randy Southerland in his Blog. Jen Miller gave me that advice too.

I’d love to know what motivates this pool of talented writers? What are your tips for becoming a better blogger? At what point did you feel ready to solicit sponsorship ads on your blog. These are just few of the things I hope to learn. Now where did I put Stephen King’s book?

Don’t be modest. You are very much a writer.

I agree with southwrite! And Spain is a beautiful place. When I was actually there and not busy preparing to leave, coming back and debriefing or in between trips and just sort of passing time, I enjoyed myself quite a bit. Between all the tapas and the adult beverages on different terraces overlooking the beach, Rota, Spain was a wonderful place and I also thoroughly enjoyed Jerez, Cadiz and Grenada. (Cape May is still better)
