Rescue of the Bounty Author in Cape May

Former Philadelphia Inquirer writer, Soundings Editor and author Doug Campbell will be in Cape May, New Jersey on Friday, May 2, 2014 to sign his new book, “Rescue of the Bounty.”

I usually think of  “The Sea’s Bitter Harvest” when I think of Doug Campbell. The compelling tale of the loss of four commercial fishing boats in the January of 1999. In his foreword Campbell uses the lyrics of Michael Troy’s “Four Boats Down”. Doug was also instrumental in the founding of the original Harbor Festival held in Cape May each year.

“Rescue of the Bounty” is an epic true story of the sea and details the circumstances that led to the loss of this ship that was built specifically for the Marlon Brando film. Bounty foundered during Hurricane Sandy with the loss of two lives, including that of mutineer Fletcher Christian’s great-great-great-great granddaughter.

Campbell will be signing books at the Saltwater Cafe beginning at noon.

The Saltwater Café is located at South Jersey Marina, 1231 Highway 109 in Cape May, next to the Lobster House.

Doug Campbell’s appearance has been sponsored by the Strictly Boaters Boat Show, May 2-4 at the Marina.

Call Show Manager, Mark Allen at the marina, 609-884-2400 for more information.
