Has it really been a year? I received a notification from Word Press today that exactly one year ago I registered and started this blog. Inspired by some dear friends and a few voracious bloggers, I decided to leap in with both feet.
Blogging about Cape May and her events and happenings has occupied most of my topics. Occasionally a more personal post about the Coast Guard or family has made its way into the stream too.
Blogging has allowed me to discover other bloggers who post about Cape May and their experience from the visitor’s perspective. People sometimes document trips to Cape May or their family’s history, up to and including the loss of someone special.
I have found blogging both challenging and interesting. What to write about and when to find or make the time. And then the need to have the blog copy edited by someone who is good enough to make it sound good, while still reading like I wanted it to be originally. Fortunately the copy editing issue has been the easiest to overcome with so many people in Cape May capable.
Going forward, I will challenge myself to avoid playing it safe on the blog. There are so many ideas and topics rolling around in my mind and so many issues to write about. Very recently I had a conversation with one of the people I credit with inspiration, about the occasional backlash from expressing one’s opinion or writing about controversial topics. I admired her perseverance and thick-skinned attitude.
So the question is where to go from here? Although I am no longer in an official capacity in the Chamber of Commerce, I still love to promote Cape May. I also have a burden to see our occupancy tax issue addressed and exposed to the less enlightened. My writing will continually improve with the help of experienced copy editors.
And oh the customary one year anniversary map of views summary: I think I’m pleased with the distribution of countries and total views. Thanks for reading.
Congrats on your one year anniversary! Mine will be next month, time really does fly. Thank you so much for all you and yours have done for me and mine, there is no place I would rather stay than The Victorian, so many wonderful memories spending time with my Mom, and so many more await me as I continue the tradition she started so many years ago.
Coincidentally, I finally finished my blog post about my latest trip to Cape May today, on your one year anniversary of all days!
For whatever reason, I’m so happy it took me a few days to finish it, it seems so apropos to have written about your town and your place on the day of your anniversary! <3
Congratulations, John! I enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the good work!
