It still gives me chills to think about the day, one of our housekeepers, came into the office, to tell me that her husband’s fishing boat was missing.
The day the F/V Lady Mary sank, sent shock waves though most of Cape May. If you’ve lived in the Cape May area long enough, you know of someone whose name is inscribed on the wall at Fisherman’s Memorial.
Located on Cape May Harbor at the end of Missouri Avenue, Fisherman’s Memorial offers a degree of closure for those families whose family members have been “lost at sea.”
Since its inception in 2008 Cape May’s Harbor Fest has been preceded by a “Blessing of the Waters” ceremony and wreath presentation at Fisherman’s Memorial on the Friday night before the event. This year’s Blessing of the Waters commences at 5:30 P.M. on Friday, June 14th. There is no cost to attend the Blessing of the Waters although donations to support the upkeep of the Memorial are always welcome.
