City of Cape May Ribbon Cutting set for New Fire Station

CAPE MAY, NJ – The City of Cape May and the Cape May City Fire Department proudly announce
The grand opening of Cape May City Fire Station 51 will be on November 29, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

The public is invited to attend a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony followed by tours of the new station alongside
Cape May City Firefighters.
The station is a state-of-the-art facility consisting of approximately 16,105 square feet, intending to
provide critical fire services to the City of Cape May and the surrounding area.

Topped Off Last December

You may recall the building was topped on December 29th. Crews used a crane to add the pinnacle to the building.

Located at 712 Franklin St., the new station replaces the prior station, which was built in 1975. The new facility will house all equipment and apparatus with three platoons of 6 personnel on each shift.

The new station is the result of a collaborative effort between the City of Cape May Mayor and Council,
Management, Fire Chief Alexander Coulter, Deputy Fire Chief Michael Eck, and the task force created to
make recommendations which included former Fire Chief Wister “Barney Dougherty, former Mayor
Robert Elwell and the Historic Preservation Commission Chairperson Warren Copeland.
