An Evening With Amy Beach

East Lynne Presents An Evening With Amy Beach

Cape May is rich with music. Singer songwriters, cover bands and classical musicians visit and make Cape May their home. Cape May is also blessed with theater. I love when our local theaters invite performers who stretch our musical repertoire. This Monday is East Lynne’s turn to enlighten us.

East Lynne Theater Company, with the sponsorship of Aleathea’s Restaurant and The Bedford Inn, presents An Evening With Amy Beach as the first of a two-part series, Musical Soirées at the Hotels. An Evening With Amy Beach will be held Monday June 4, at Aleathea’s Restaurant, featuring world-renowned classical pianist Lillie Gardner as she performs the piano works of American composer Amy Beach.

Amy Beach (1867 – 1944) was the first female composer to have her work performed by a symphony orchestra and was the first American composer to achieve success without the benefit of European study. With its mission of presenting the American experience through its classic stage productions, East Lynne is proud to celebrate the music of this monumental and pivotal figure in America’s musical heritage.

Pianist and chamber musician Lillie Gardner of St. Paul, Minnesota, received her Bachelor of Music degrees from New York University and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of Connecticut. Dr. Gardner has performed throughout the world in such venues as Steinway Hall, Teatro de Casa Italiana and Tenri Cultural institute of New York. She makes her Cape May debut with East Lynne’s An Evening with Amy Beach.

On hand for the June 4 performance will be WWFM, The Classical Network, to record An Evening with Amy Beach for future broadcast on David Osenberg’s program, Celebrating Our Musical Community. A post-performance reception with Lillie Gardner will follow with cash bar at Aleathea’s.

Aleathea’s at Inn of Cape May is located at 7 Ocean Street, Cape May. Doors open for seating at 7:30PM with the performance starting at 8:00PM. Admission is $27.00, ages 12 and under are free.
