THOUSANDS ESCAPE THE CAPE TRIATHLON IN SECOND ANNUAL EVENT

1500 Athletes, 1 Giant Leap – the Most Unique Race Event on East Coast

On Sunday, June 8, 1500 athletes tested their mettle and resilience as they literally leaped into the 2nd annual Escape the Cape Triathlon.   The Delaware River and Bay Authority’s Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal in Lower Township, NJ once again hosted this unique endurance event, created by DelMo Sports.

Thousands of spectators lined the race course, from the starting point at the Ferry to the finish line on the Terminal’s boardwalk.  From the incredible start, athletes began the USAT Sanctioned Event by leaping 10 feet from the MV Twin Capes ferry vessel into the Delaware Bay and swimming ashore…to the gorgeous bike course through vineyards and beautiful back roads…to the run to the finish line, Escape the Cape was a great success.

The event consisted of three separate races taking place simultaneously. The Sprint Triathlon consisted of a .35 mile swim, 10 mile bike, and 5k run. The International Triathlon consisted of a 1 mile swim, 20 mile bike, and 5 mile run, and the International Aquabike consisted of a 1 mile swim and 20 mile bike only.
