Cape May Coast Guard Training Center Graduation

One recent morning this band of brothers of United States Coast Guard fire fighters was spotted responding to a Cape May fire call. Although thankfully not needed they embodied the Coast Guard motto Semper Paratus. Each of them Active Duty crewman, attended boot camp at TRACEN prior to their careers. Each of them, hopefully had a family member attend their graduation from bootcamp.

Every week in our town families from around the country arrive, often for one day, to attend the Friday graduation ceremony at TRACEN. For economically challenged families of recruits, the Coast Guard Family assistance fund is available to help. 

The CG Family Assistance Fund (CGFAF) is staffed by volunteers, each one with a family member currently serving in the Coast Guard. Some are Coast Guard spouses while others are mothers or fathers of Coast Guardsmen. One-hundred (100%) of CGFAF donations are used to provide eligible Coast Guard families with much needed financial support.

Although officially certified by the Internal Revenue Service in 2012, the CGFAF was actually an idea born a number of years ago. The volunteers staffing the CGFAF were drawn together by their love of the Coast Guard, pride in their family members serving, and the overwhelming emotional impact of attending Coast Guard boot camp graduation ceremonies. This small band of committed friends quickly realized some new Coast Guardsmen had no family attending graduation – no familiar face in the audience to celebrate their accomplishments and applaud their successes. The volunteers decided they would one day find a way to help less fortunate families attend boot camp graduation.
